Hail Mary Myth

The obsession with focusing on massive change is overrated.

Let me speak clearly… the idea of focusing on massive change is akin to throwing a hail mary in your life.

You dream up the big play and cross your fingers it works. If it doesn’t… hey... you can let yourself off the hook because you gave it a shot. Right?

For illustrative purposes, think of the many thousands of New Year resolutions orphaned every year. The absolute statements of  “I’m going to do XYZ every day” or some derivative is thrown out in a mix of desperation and hope without a clear plan.

Orchestrating hail mary scenarios in your life is often subtle self-sabotaging behavior allowing you to demonstrate a false sense of ownership in your life.

Instead, focus on taking ownership of small shifts in your life. Small adjustments (habits, actions, thoughts) are the bricks that will stack up one-by-one; ultimately creating the bridge from where you are today to where you want to go. Yes, the end goal must be compelling but too many people sit on the couch or stare at the end of a bottle dreaming of what could be but never take action.

Make sure you are calling the right plays in your life.

So… stop scrolling your LinkedIn feed already… where do you need to take action in your life? Today! Now
